Contraband and inspections: distinguish a hiding place from a fixed storage bug
Check your version before treating confiscation as an intended hiding rule. 1.0.0.1 fixes specific Smuggler Bay inspection failures involving the trash and poster. That does not make any item in the trash safe storage. Inspect the exact container and current instructions; updating is not a promise to restore lost goods.

Version, sources and testing limits
Official fixes 1.0.0.1–1.0.0.2; poster lead from October Demo reports; launch-day disposal report unresolved. The official patch, community reports and our editorial checklists are identified separately. No current save or 1.0 build was tested. See the dated sources at the end; older UI operations and rates may change.

Start with the item and the actual inspection result
Write down the item’s tags, permit, container name and location before interpreting a confiscation. Ordinary inventory, a hiding place and a special smuggling container are different things. A legal sale, an inspection and a faction-reputation change are also separate outcomes; do not infer all three from one successful transaction.
Where is the early poster hiding place?
An October Demo discussion describes clicking the Eat more nutrifruit poster to reveal a small hiding place. Later replies correct the original dimensions to 2 × 2, rather than 4 × 4. This is a dated discovery lead, not an inspected current-release storage screen. Look for the poster in your build, open it and read its actual capacity and behaviour before putting something valuable inside. Original report and correction
If the interaction or capacity differs, follow what the current game displays. Do not discard a larger item on the assumption that the old report guarantees it will fit.
What did 1.0.0.1 fix?
The developer fixed inspection confiscation involving a Smuggler Bay in the trash can, and a Mini Smuggler Bay that had previously been behind the poster. The patch also prevents putting a Hypertech Storage Bay inside smuggler bays. If an old nested-storage trick is refused, stop treating it as a supported layout. Official storage fixes
These are specific fixes. They do not establish that the trash can is permanent storage, that every container protects contraband, or that a patch returns items already lost.
Do not confuse confiscation with disposal
A launch-day player reported a smuggling chest disappearing from the trash. A reply warns about later disposal if it is not retrieved. The timing and exact container state have not been independently verified. Keep the report as a reason to inspect the container’s current instructions, not as a tested safe number of nights. Unresolved disposal report
For a missing item, record whether an inspection occurred, whether a nightly disposal message appeared, the container and its contents, and the installed version. Without that distinction, a disposal report can be mistaken for the inspection bug that was already fixed.
Lou and reputation: two separate changes
- 1.0.0.1: reporting Lou to Security no longer reduces Black Market reputation. This corrects that specific consequence, not every faction effect in her story. Reputation fix
- 1.0.0.2: Lou can no longer be shot on any visit. An older suggestion to solve her encounter that way is obsolete. Current interaction change
This page does not supply unverified dialogue branches for Lou, Eleanor, Butcher or the ending. If you need help with a different consequence, preserve the exact dialogue and event order rather than combining unrelated quest rumours. For other launch problems, use the versioned fixes.
